I’ll call it out immediately: I’m biased about entrepreneurship.

I’ve run my own business since I was 22 and out of my total time in the working world, only 30% of it was spent working as a W-2 salaried employee. Among other perspectives, this posture for an assortment of reasons has attracted tons of feedback from peers, friends, family, and sometimes random strangers. I’ve heard all sorts of things when people learn that I’m self-employed, and it all revolves around one common narrative;

Entrepreneurship is hard

While I cannot deny that entrepreneurship does come with its fair share of challenges, I always try to offer the other side of the coin. It seems many modern corporate workers are entrenched in the belief that being an employee is demonstrably better, easier, or safer than being an entrepreneur is.

Here are some of the comparables I offer when championing entrepreneurship in this battle:

Employee mindset: not knowing where your next paycheck is coming from is hard versus Entrepreneur mindset: not knowing the true motivations of the person who has authority over your next paycheck is hard
