My mental ninja moves for coping with job-induced social media addiction

Social media addiction is a real phenomenon. Here’s how to cope.

Social media apps, and just about everything on our phones, are inherently engineered to command our time and attention. They’re proven to be addictive and distractive. For most, social media is a welcome distraction from the trials and tribulations of everyday life and can be a fun way to blast through boredom. But what about social media marketers, whose financial livelihoods depend on their ability to navigate these apps efficiently and effectively? After managing over 100 social media accounts for my clients, here are my mental ninja moves for coping with job-based social media addiction:

Structured engagement windows

This should be a key cog in your account management system. Without established timeframes for checking on engagement, you may find yourself missing certain messages or worse, always waiting around for the next inflow to arrive. I try to hit this 3 times per day: once in the late morning, once in the middle of the afternoon, and once at the end of my work day. This keeps a timely cadence without keeping me plugged in all day.
